Important Systemwide Assembly meeting FRIDAY, January 17, 2025

The Irvine Faculty Association Board urges you to attend the special meeting of our Academic Senate Assembly on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM (register for the Zoom here and then join on Zoom here). UC Legislative Assembly Chair, Steve W. Cheung, has released the agenda for the meeting along with 63 pages of documents that you can find here.

This meeting will discuss three critical issues affecting UC faculty:

1) The directive for a new Information Security Investment Plan issued by President Drake to all Chancellors in February 2024 (see the exchange between President Drake and the Academic Council regarding “Information Security Investment Plans”).

[The Academic Senate has posted President Drake’s February letter and the University Committee on Academic Computing and Communications (UCACC) May 15 letter of response, as well as Academic Senate Chair James Steintrager’s June 6 cover note to the UCACC letter here.]

2) The differential treatment of faculty and administrators regarding compensation and cost-of-living adjustments (see the October 15, 2024, letter signed by 450 faculty and President Drake’s November 13, 2024 response).

3) The University of California’s continued decrease in its percent contributions to medical plans (see the October 15, 2024, letter signed by 450 faculty and President Drake’s November 13, 2024 response).

If you cannot attend, please contact your campus representatives and let them know how you feel about the three issues being discussed at this meeting.

You can find the CUCFA board’s own brief analysis of and reflection on each of the above issues here. We suggest that everyone read this in advance of the meeting, even if you aren’t able to read all the documents linked above.
